Reflexology for Menopause

BLOG |

One of the most common and debilitating symptoms of menopause is hot flashes. Learn how reflexology can help you manage these uncomfortable episodes.

As a foot health practitioner, I often get asked about reflexology for menopause. Reflexology is a therapy that involves applying pressure to specific points on the feet, hands or ears. It is based on the belief that these points correspond to different areas of the body, and that by applying pressure to them you can relieve pain or tension in those areas.

Reflexology and Menopause

There is some evidence to suggest that techniques used by reflexologists may be helpful for managing the symptoms of menopause. One study found that reflexology was effective in reducing hot flashes, night sweats and sleep disturbances in peri-menopausal women. Another study found that reflexology had a positive effect on mood swings, irritability and depression in post-menopausal women.

If you are experiencing any of the symptoms of menopause, reflexology may be worth a try. It is considered to be generally safe. However, if you have any health conditions or are pregnant, it is always best to check with your doctor for foot health practitioner before starting any new therapy.

What To Expect From Treatment

Reflexology is usually given as a foot massage, but it can also be done on the hands or ears. Your foot care practitioner will use their fingers and thumbs to apply pressure to specific points on your feet, hands or ears. This pressure may be firm at times, but should never be painful.

Our reflexology sessions last for 60 minutes. Some people find they need regular sessions to see results while others only need sporadic treatments.

Reflexology for menopause is generally considered to be safe. However, if you have any health conditions or are pregnant, it is always best to check with your reflexologist or foot health practitioner before starting reflexology or any other new therapy.
